Former Skins star Nicholas Hoult continues to make an impressive bid to conquer Hollywood. He’s just landed a huge role in the new Mad Max film alongside Hollywood heavyweight Charlize Theron. Nicholas has landed a role in Mad Max 4: Fury Road and will start filming in the coming weeks for what could be his big break in Hollywood. Speaking to me this week he told me: “I’m petrified by Hollywood but I have lots coming up in Hollywood. Its odd at first out there because you have to get past a layer of fake-ness I guess, but you know, we filmed A Single Man out there and it didn’t feel like a big Hollywood production in that sense.” Nicholas has now been nominated for the Orange Rising Star Bafta Award – the only gong at the posh ceremony to be voted for by the public. He’s even up against Twilight star Kristen Stewart in the category! Ever the charmer he said on his nomination: “I don’t have any expectations about winning with the people that I’m in there with as they’re much better actors than me and they’re on a much higher incline than I am.” Don’t put yourself down Nicholas! *Stylist to the stars Rachel Zoe may look so thing that she would snap in half if she tried to pull a yoga move. But Rachel sure can pack it away when it comes to a meal. I watched in disbelief as he put away a roast chicken dinner at Chateau Marmont. She had potatoes piled high, chicken and a stack of steamed spinach on her plate and didn’t leave a bit as she wolfed her meal down. How somebody so notoriously thin can be that hungry is beyond me.

*Reese Witherspoon cut a lonely figure as I saw her enter the Beverly Hills Hotel this week. The star parked up her 4×4 and walked in and looked thinner than I’ve ever seen her before. I guess the heartbreak diet has worked a treat for Reese after her split for Jake Gyllenhaal. Chips and burger for one!

*Nicole Richie is so well behaved these days! I spied the star looking uber chic at the Sunset Tower having an evening meeting with her publicist. There wasn’t a drink in sight – she stuck to water! A far cry from her wild Simple Life years.

*Sylvester Stallone and Sir Philip Green were having a wild evening at fabulous West Hollywood restaurant Cecconi’s when I spotted them. The boys laughed loudly whilst their wives – dripping in diamonds – sat nattering. I dined there the next night alongside glamour Queen Joan Collins. Joanie, 76, still has it and left in her rather aged Rolls Royce with hubby Percy at the wheel.

*Jennifer Aniston and Gerard Butler continue to fuel speculation that they’ve had a wee fling! The pair are clearly close friends – my LA snitches spotted the ‘pals’ partying together at Boa on Sunset Boulevard. Jen and Gerry threw off paparazzi by leaving the private party separately. I do hear Gerard was acting completely single inside – he was flirting with a tall brunette. Get him!

*Victoria Beckham continues to over dress wherever she goes in Hollywood. The star took her three sons for brunch at swish new hangout Palihouse. The outfit of choice was huge shades, killer heels and a super formal power skirt. A fellow diner revealed: “She was dressed like she was having the biggest business meeting of her life. It was a little amusing for a Sunday brunch.” Only Posh can get away with that gettup!

*Rachel Bilson looked stunning in a Chanel gown when I met her at the DIC and InStyle 9th annual Diamond Fashion Show in Beverly Hills. Former OC star Rachel, who’s going out with Hayden Christensen, told me she’d love to get back to working in TV. She said: “I’d love to get back into television – if the right thing came up then I’d definitely be interested.” She also spoke about how she prepares for the red carpet. She said: “I’m healthy but I don’t really see it as a big deal. As long as you’re comfortable then that’s the most important.” Indeed.

*Expect Kate Hudson to be all skin and bones at the Golden Globes later today. I’m told Kate’s been preparing for a role in new film Earthbound in which she plays a cancer patient and shares a number of steamy scenes with Natalie Portman’s ex Gael Garcia Bernal. The flick starts shooting in New Orleans this week. A source tells me: “Kate’s having to drop the pounds for her role.” I’m sure her split with Alex Rodriguez has helped with that weight loss too!

*Sandra Bullock may be the toast of Hollywood right now but she was overshadowed by a Beatle when she stepped onto the red carpet at the Critics Choice Movie Awards. Sir Paul McCartney, accompanied by girlfriend Nancy Shevell, walked up the carpet at the same time as Sandy and the crowd above the carpet went wild for him and ignored her. Sandra told me: “He’s a Beatle – of course he deserves that sort of response.” Indeed he does!

*Not every star arrived on time for the swish bash at the Hollywood Palladium. Meryl Streep, Cuba Gooding Jnr, Matt Damon and Claire Danes all arrived late to the show and were whisked through the back entrance into the already started ceremony. The early exit award went to Josh Duhamel and Kristin Bell. The When In Rome co-stars presented Best Actor Award to Irish star Saoirse Ronan for her performance in The Lovely Bones and left within 30 minutes of arriving at the bash. Cheeky!

*Tim Kash has come a long way from his days as the newshound at MTV in the UK. Nowadays, Tim’s the top dog at MTV in the US and has just become the first host to sign a non exclusive contract with the channel. So what is he going to do with his extra-curricular time I hear you ask? He’s going to become an actor. He’s signed with agents William Morris to represent his acting work. He told me at the Critics Choice Movie Awards: “I was offered two great acting jobs last year and couldn’t do them as I was exclusively signed for MTV but with the new contract I can get into acting. I’m hopefully into the Lee Strasberg school to act and then we can see what happens.” Good luck Tim!

*Zac Efron answered the rumour mill about whether he’ll replace Tobey Maguire and be stepping into the Spiderman suit in the new movie in the series. He told me: “I don’t know what the chances are to be honest. It’d be a dream come true. What young actor wouldn’t want to be involved in that film.” The guy has a point.

*The boy from new movie The Road, Kodi Smit-McPhee, tells me he was genuinely freaked out by one particular scene in the film. Kodi, 13, who was nominated for the Young Actor Award, told me: “It was especially creepy when the cannibals started running towards me in the film. The book was scary. Luckily I had Viggo Mortensen there to help me through the scary times.” Who wouldn’t feel safe with Viggo protecting them?!

*Carey Mulligan is the new Brit girl on the block in Hollywood. The An Education star looked fab at the Critics Choice Awards but her attitude was far from Hollywood on the red carpet. She brought her mum along as her date for the night. She said: “I’ve brought my mum – she’s the best date I could have had by my side.” Nice one.

*Gabourey Sidibe looks set to sweep the board after her lead role in Precious. She tells me she’s nervous about the prospect of an Oscar nomination. She revealed: “Oh come on, are you serious? I’m not even thinking about that – it would be mad to get a nomination. I get far too star struck at these events to keep calm and together.” She looked perfectly at home when I saw her alongside Bradley Cooper and the rest of the A-Listers.

*Pop Princess Kylie Minogue releases her new effort – this time she’s working with Madonna’s disco muse Stuart Price. Will be HUGE!
*Adele will return with her second album after the multi-Platinum debut 19. She’s writing new tunes with Jack White!
*Big bands will be back in a big way in 2010 – new albums from U2, Gorillaz, Kings of Leon and Arcade Fire are expected.
*Pop divas Estelle and Welsh warbler Duffy will be back with new material – Estelle’s been working with Pharrell Williams and Wyclef on the new material.
*Gabriella Cilmi’s second album drops in March and lead single Woman on a Mission is a corker. Definitely one to watch! Oh, and X factor reject Diana Vickers releases her debut album – it’s supposed to be a corker!

Myleene Klass is kicking off 2010 by adding another string to her bow – learning to speak German. Myleene studied German at school in her teens, but as she now presents an international CNN film show each month the star thinks brushing up on her German will help massively when working internationally. She tells me: “Me new year’s resolution is to learn German properly, I might even take classes! On a more mundane note my other resolution is to learn how to use my dishwasher. I’ve had it for over two years and still don’t know how to switch it on, I always wash up by hand!”.

Fearne Cotton is currently writing up a wish list for producers of stars she’d love to feature on her “Fearne And….” ITV2 show. Last series the highlight was Paris Hilton – and this year it seems she’s setting the standard high once more. Fearne tells me: “I want Lindsay Lohan to do it and Britney Spears would be awesome. Lindsay would be great for TV. I’ve already approached her manager and apparently she hasn’t got time but I’m still trying. Elton John would be amazing  – and I love him. Kanye West would be amazing too because the press have turned on him but I think he could rectify that somewhat by showing he’s a nice guy. I want anyone who’s entertaining to hang out with.” I’d like to see the real Sienna Miller!

Here I am having a leg over with telly host Davina McCall. Truth be told, Davina was proving she can cut the mustard now she’s hosting brilliant new Sky1 HD show Got To Dance. And from the sounds of the star’s enthusiasm she’s enjoyed every minute of starring in the advert for the show where she dons a Madonna-style leotard. She says: “The advert was amazing. I’ve watched it 50 times. I’m a bit sad because it’s vain and although I’m not that great, it was the best day of my life shooting that. I didn’t feel like Madonna though – despite the outfit. I’m more like Mac-Donna unfortunately. I wish I could be that fit.”
The star also explained why she feels her show appeals to dance fans more than it’s BBC rival So You Think You Can dance which started last night. “The other show sounds restricting,” she admitted. “They’re restricted by age and stuff but we are open to everyone. Ours is a show for the people. It really grabs you. I’m giving 150 per cent to this and I genuinely think it’s a great entertainment programme.” I couldn’t agree more. Hurrah! One of the nicest celebrity couples I know have taken the big step towards walking down the aisle.

I’ve just heard word that Sugababe Heidi Range accepted a proposal over New Year in India from boyfriend of five years Dave Berry. The pair have been holidaying there together since Heidi left bandmates Amelle and Jade enjoying their break in Barbados.

Heidi and Dave have been dating for over five years and are honestly two of the nicest people in the business. Congratulations to the happy couple!
